Is Robert Downey Jr. a convincing black man in Tropic Thunder?

We all know that when the news first came out that Robert Downey Jr. was to play a black man in Ben Stiller’s new movie Tropic Thunder, many people did not know how to take it. The thing is people were worried how Downey Jr. who is white will portray playing a black man. However, that is not all that people were worried about the movie, the thing is people first thought that Tropic Thunder was mocking people in the army as stupid and incompetent, but after watching the first trailer, we really do not have anything to worry about.

Tropic Thunder is a movie that pokes fun at Hollywood actors, and how they act as a pre-Madonna prima donna, it is great that someone like Stiller actually pokes fun out of himself and his fellow actors, such as Robert as well as Jack Black. You may still be wondering why Robert Downey Jr. is playing a black man, well he plays actor Kirk Lazarus in the movie, who was given a role in a new movie which was wrote for a black guy. Lazarus is an Oscar winning actor so accepts the part and dies his skin and really immerses himself in the role, he really starts to think that he is a black man during the movie.

Official Teaser Trailer: The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, will this film suck?

Have to ask this question “Will The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor suck? Below we have the official teaser trailer which has been released by Universal and must say the film basically looks like the rest of them, nether the less I like these sort of films they are fun. The best part about this film is Jet Li stars in it playing the resurrected Han Emperor, oh yeah fighting galore.

Now many of you may slate this film because it is being directed by Rob Cohen, just in case you have forgotten who he is he is the one who is responsible for xXx, The Fast and the Furious and stealth, you can say those films were crap but I actually liked them, ok corny acting by Paul Walker from The Fast and the Furious and definitely corny acting from Vin Diesel in xXx.

Will you say the plot is boring, will you say the acting is poor? We all know that the blockbuster global Mummy franchise is huge and on a personal note this film looks good to join that franchise. Let me explain the plot about the film a little, returning once again is actor Brendan Fraser who in the film plays explorer Rick O’Connell who is out to combat actor Jet Li who plays the resurrected Han Emperor, this is an epic race from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick O’Connell is joined by his son called Alex who is played by actor Luke Ford plus wife Evelyn played by actress Maria Bello, oh and once again John Hannah is in the film again who plays Evelyn’s brother Jonathan. The O’Connell family must stop a mummy (Damn that’s why the film is called the mummy lol) who has awoken fro a 2000 year old curse who is threatening to push the world into his merciless unending service.

Anyway I do not want to spoil the movie for you, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor release in theatres on August 1st 2008. Now please watch the teaser trailer below and do tell me what you think of it?

Iron Man Effect: 2008 good for Robert Downey Jr.

We all know that Robert Downey Jr. is a great actor as an Oscar nomination for 1992’s Chaplin proves just that, but the actor has never had huge success with the movies that he has starred in. That is until now as Downey Jr. is going through something in his career which people are calling the Iron Man Effect. Robert without a doubt is a great actor and he has starred in some superb movies, my favorite being Heart and Souls which is a story about four lost souls that once used to be his guardian angels during childhood, who are now looking to enter the afterlife.

It does seem a shame that it takes Downey Jr. to take on the role of a comic book super hero to actually get the success that he truly deserves. We know that he has had some struggle in his life with the whole drug problem, but it is nice to see that the actor has been given a chance to shine once more, and boy has he done that in a big way.

2008 looks as though it could be the best year for Robert’s career, because not only has he already had huge success with Iron Man but the movie world seems to be getting exited with his role in the action-comedy Tropic Thunder as well as The Soloist which starts Oscar winner Jamie Foxx.

Will Twilight Trailer beat Indiana Jones record: 4.1 million to beat?

A few days ago we posted an article which included the new Twilight Teaser Trailer; little did anyone know how popular the movie trailer was going to be. In the first three days of the trailer release it had been viewed over 2 million times on MySpace.com. This is coming close to breaking the record that is held by the movie trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, that trailer was viewed 4.1 million times in its first week on Yahoo Movie.

If the Twilight Trailer keeps going the way it is, then it will become the most watched movie trailer since the launch of the internet. This is a really big deal, all the other high viewed movie trailers are made by big production companies however; Twilight is made by a non-major movie studio. One has to wonder if Paramount Pictures are feeling a little sick right now, as they had the chance to take this movie up. The movie does remind me a little of The Lost Boys, this could be the reason why the trailer has become popular. Summit Entertainment are making the movie, they decided to make the movie as the first three books in the series has sold more than 6 million copies, so the studio are hoping that the movie adaptation will be as popular, and the early signs do look promising.

Bioshock Movie Update: Universal and Gore Verbinski to make film

Take-Two has signed a deal with Universal and Pirates of the Caribbean helmer, Gore Verbinski and Aviator screenwriter John Logan to produce the movie version of 2007’s popular video game Bioshock. This is said to be the biggest game to movie deal since the ill fated movie version of Halo. We all know how the deal with Microsft to produce a Halo game fell through which still made the software giant some money, well $5 million in fact. However; Strauss Zelnick the chairman from Take-Two has structured the deal a little different for Bioshock, he said “the state of the art deal is structured so that “Bioshock” won’t end up in turnaround like “Halo,” which is back with Microsoft.” He emphasized “The reason I structured it the way I did is to make sure it gets made.”

Take-Two has not been short of offers to turn Bioshock into a movie, but the game developer wanted to wait until it had one countless awards in the game industry, so that they could be offered a better deal from a movie studio. Universal was very impressed with the games results that they decided to make a preemptive bid.

No release date for Bioshock has been targeted yet as the movie is in the very early stages however Verbinski will be starting start pre-production as soon as Logan has finished and approved the script.

Take-Two has been approached by a number of producers and studios since the game came out in August but waited until it had swept most of the end-of-year industry awards and racked up impressive holiday sales before working with CAA to package the project. Universal got a first look and made a pre-emptive bid.

It will be great to see how Bioshock will work as a movie; the game is set in an alternative history 1960, and is in an underwater world. The scenes will be very dark and I would be interested to know what film certificate it would be.

No Country for Old Men Movie Review

Miramax Films presents a film written and directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen. It is a critically acclaimed 2007 film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy. The film features Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, and Javier Bardem.

If you like the kind of film that surprises you and takes away your breath at the same time,this is it. It tells the story of a drug deal gone very wrong and the ensuing cat-and-mouse drama as three men crisscross each others paths in the desert landscape of 1980 West Texas. Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon some dead bodies, a stash of heroin and more than $2 million in cash near the Rio Grande.

The local sheriff, Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones), tells of the changing times as the region becomes increasingly violent. The key character of Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) and his weapon of choice — cattle gun — are introduced as he escapes police custody and steals a car by using the cattle gun to kill the car's driver. But at the same time a hunter hunting pronghorn come across a collection of corpses and one Mexican near death which was the result of a drug deal gone bad. The hunter Llewwlyn Moss [Josh Brolin] also finds two million dollars in a suitcase and decides that he will keep the money and leave the Mexican to die, but has a change of heart and returns with some water for the man.

But this good deed sets off a cat and mouse game in which the hunter and the hunted switch roles as a gang of Mexicans,Chigurh,Moss and Bell chase each other and the two million dollars across the Texas and Mexican landscape. But unbeknown to Moss, Chigurh who was hired to retrieve the money has a transponder hidden in it. And Chigurh, who is a professional hit man, will kill anyone who gets in his way.

In the meantime Moss, not knowing anything about the transponder, sends his wife Carla Jean [Kelly MacDonald] out of town and jumps from motel to motel trying to elude not only Chigurh but also the Mexicans. While all of this is happening, Bell main concern is to try and protect Moss after he finds him. Chigurh is closing in on Moss because of the tracking device.

Chigurh ends up killing some of the Mexicans and a rival hit-man named Carson Wells who is played by Woody Harrelson. Moss arranges a meeting with Carla Jean in El Pasco to give her the money and tries to get her out of danger. All of the action now takes place at the motel when all of the main characters converge there, but not at the same time. Moss is killed by the Mexicans in a bloody shootout. Sheriff Bell shows up and enters a room to discover that the vent covers have been removed and knows that the money had been removed and then leaves, not knowing that Chigurh is hiding in that same motel.

Bell finally gets the opportunity to visit his uncle Ellis [Barry Corbin] and informs him that he is going to retire because he is getting leery of the changing times, but Ellis accuses him of just being vain. Some time later Chiguth confronts the widowed Carla Jean and offers her the same "coin flip"opportunity that he had offered the gas station owner, Carla Jean refuses and in the next scene it shows Chigurh examining the soles of his boots, as if to indicate that he had committed another murder. He ends up in a car accident but he manages to elude the police and escapes again.

At the very end of this story Bell is reflecting on the many choices he had in his life. He tells his wife[Tess Harper] about the two dreams that he has had while heis experiencing an uneasy retirement at home.

Highly praised by critics, the film received several Golden Globe Award nominations. Roger Ebert called it "as good a film as the Coen brothers... have ever made and gave it a four star review and it appeared on many of critics top 10 list of 2007.It took Best Picture at 2008 Critics’ Choice Awards.

Little does Peter know the black substance has its sights set on Eddie else as well. Brock is turned into Venom, a arch-foe that mirrors everything Spider-Man can do.
